The Namiki Emperor Dragon is an impressive example of the Maki-e technique. This handcrafted fountain pen is both a stunning work of art and an exceptional writing instrument. The dragon symbolizes good fortune and prosperity, as well as the promise of a bright future.
The surface is gold-plated, coated with Urushi lacquer, and then polished to perfection. Multiple Maki-e techniquesare used to create the intricate design, requiring the skill of a highly talented artisan. Each pen is personally signed by the artist Mamoru.
The pen features a #50 Jumbo nib, crafted from 18K gold, and engraved in duotone with Namiki’s logo and Mt. Fuji.
It comes in an exclusive wooden gift box, including a bottle of Namiki ink, a glass pipette for refilling, a leather pen holder, and additional fine details.
Nib in FM width (Fine-Medium)
The Emperor Collection is Namiki’s most exclusive collection. The pens feature an extra-wide nib in size 50, the same as those created for the first Maki-e fountain pens 90 years ago. The pen body is crafted from ebonite, and the design is made using the “Togidashi-Taka Maki-e” technique, which demands the highest level of craftsmanship.
Ink Refill: Eyedropper. The pen has an exceptionally large ink capacity, as the entire barrel is filled with ink.
Maki-e can literally be translated as “sprinkled picture” in English. This intricate art form involves sprinkling powder—often gold or silver—onto the artwork and applying multiple layers of lacquer to create a durable, hard surface.
The nib is made of 18K gold and is engraved with Namiki’s logo and Mt. Fuji on the front.
